Sharon....Being deconditioned is a bummer but coupled up with depression is a real plate full and the choices that Penny and Carol give should help by either working your way out of depression with exercise or taking the meds to help lose the depression and then get after the exercise IMHO...garyTX
Can a person reverse deconditioning?
That is the beauty of activity - you can reverse the problem. Think of the
body as a car. If it isnt tuned-up, it wont use fuel efficiently. Its the same
way with muscles - if they get weak, they dont use oxygen efficiently.
Strengthening your muscles wont cure COPD, but it will make breathing and functioning easier.
What activities should a person do?
Start by looking at the basic activities you do each day. If you want to be
able to walk more, you should walk. If you are having trouble reaching items
in the upper cabinets, you may want to try strength training for your arms.
But in reality, any activity will help. Get a friend and go to the grocery
store or mall. Take a walk in the park. Remember, activity should be fun!
BBLW NOTE: ALWAYS CHECK WITH PHYSICIAN BEFORE BEGINNING EXERCISE PROGRAM.
