Hello,
I am looking for the English origins of my Crampton ancestors. By a 'round about way' I have come upon the possiblity of the village/town/city of Cranbrook and wondered if you have any information that might be helpful.
My earliest Crampton ancestor that I know of was Dennis, who was born in the early 1600's and was in Guilford Connecticut, USA, by 1640 when he married Mary Parmelee. She died and he married Sarah Hall Munger, widow of Nicholas Munger who came to America at age 16 with William Chittenden from Cranbrook, Kent, England in 1639. Thinking that people settled with and near people that they knew, I thought that maybe my Dennis was also from Cranbrook. I checked the Cranbrook message board and found your Crampton post. I was pleasantly surprised, because there don't seem to be that many Cramptons! My Dennis died in 1688, so he probably was a fairly young man and possibly an indentured person when he came to America. He eventually became wealthy and owned a plantation near Guilford, Connecticut. Do any of these names sound familiar or are there any Dennis's in your Crampton ancestry?
Thanks!
