Ok I've been catchin up on the board here today and had a rare few minutes.
Ok Bev your puppy aptitude test is something I'll be learning about, email me some info if you have any otherwise trusty google. Very good post.
Brian everyone should know a dogs behavior and even temperament are affected greatly by its environment. Sometimes it's not correctable. The videos I've seen of Ali playin with the other dogs and walking through town are enough for anyone to see he's a pretty good dog.
I think the information James shared was awesome, it was too much info to share with just everyone though. Some of these breeders don't deserve to have it. I understand where Brian is coming from but, and this will shock everyone. Brian doesn't always say things in the best ways. Sometimes I think 2 different people post under Brian M.
Matt, I'm not sure we've talked so hello. The people that tell you they don't make money breeding are not being honest. No you don't make money on every litter, there is often heart break, and there is great expense both financially and emotionally. It's something only those with a great passion for animals and to be more specific the species they breed. You would not have any breeders however if it was not profitable, there is a business end to our passion. That's where all the ugliness happens. It gets real nasty when someone is perceived to be in it only for the money.
Leigh curious as to how the LBA and OEBKC dogs are titled and all that stuff. Just curious I don't read your boards or anything so don't know.
Ok at the IOEBA shows temperament does play a big role in who wins. I know this for fact and hope Diane, Will, or Liz will post and clarify it but I saw it in action at Waco. I no idea about other registries.
There is a lot that still needs to be done in this breed and there aren't many people that arent noticing the IOEBA these days and the growth that's taking place. That is why it's so unfortunate that so many cannot get past the problems their egos create. It's not about the money for most of us, why do we then let money, greed, and ego destroy good friendships in ugly ways, and stop friendships from forming. The internet is the fuel to the fire, with email and mg boards. I think to be a registered kennel you have to make one show per year, just so someone can see you and you have to look people in the eyes. Many more of us would get along. I know we all dont have to be best friends but imagine the things we could accomplish if we could at least be civil. Everyone on this board has dogs that should not be bred according the your registries standard. That's doesn't mean you can't have a different color, a bigger or smaller size, A wider dog or a more athletic working type dog. all of those things fit in the standard, its the structural faults, things that affect the quality of a dogs life. Which imo is the most important thing. Alright then, hope to see ya at the show!
Oh one more thing, regarding marketing, I do it, because it's smart, and I know I'm going to tell someone new to the breed the truth, and what to look for, show them the faults in my dogs, what we are working to improve, that it's a process and while we breed for a perfect dog we know we'll never achieve it because that is not the world we live in.
Dogs ARE NOT little people in fur. They do not operate with the same reasoning as a human. (MaryC '08)
