Appearing periodically until race day, we're launching a new feature which will include a mile by mile preview of the Mount Desert Island Marathon route and strategies that will help participants successfully navigate the course.
We'll also provide ideas for things to see and do over marathon week and of course, insider tips on great places to eat, drink and have fun while visiting Mt. Desert Island.
You will get a big confidence boost after hitting the half way point and it's normal to have a little let down soon after so you really need to focus and especially during this mile (.09) as the reality that you still have a long way to go hit's home. There is a nice down hill near the Northeast Harbor swim club, looking to your left you can see Fernald Point, Flying Mountain and not to far inland from the shore opposite from where you are running is where the finish line is located! The road bends left and then right passing pristine summer homes all with beautifully landscaped grounds. Next you be looking straight up Somes Sound across a wild grassy meadow. The view you get is where you are heading next so enjoy it and don't be discouraged by what looks like a very long distance because every step is taking you one step closer to where you want to be! Another of the awesome encouraging water stops is just ahead followed by a very moderate upgrade that leads to mile 14. Relax and have fun Sargeant Drive is next! 12.2 miles to go!
Must try this:
