Try Sips located in downtown Southwest Harbor located on Clark Point Road. Turn left at the flashing yellow light 100 feet past the finish line! Must try this: http://www.members.boardhost.com/crowathletics/msg/1156962115.top
Appearing periodically until race day, we're launching a new feature which will include a mile by mile preview of the Mount Desert Island Marathon route and strategies that will help participants successfully navigate the course.
We'll also provide ideas for things to see and do over marathon week and of course, insider tips on great places to eat, drink and have fun while visiting Mt. Desert Island.
Up, Up, Up ! Just get yourself up this hill, once you do, this is a really big test behind you. Now the road thankfully flattens and bends gradually to the left. You can smell the fresh pine needles mixed with salt air here. The road bends right and drops away from you at the bottom of this hill is Babson Creek or the very head waters of Somes Sound and depending on which way the tide is running, (it comes in and goes out about every 6 hours) By the way high tide on Oct 15 is at 6:26 am and low tide is at 12:04 pm which means the water will be running out or coming from your right going to the left for most of the day and then like clockwork it will switch directions at a little past noon. This might be another incentive for you, race the tide and then tell us who the last person to get past here before the tide turns. The hill up from the creek is short and steep but there's something worth getting to at the top, take a left and the number twenty is staring you right in the face. Rather you feel like crying or celebrating now the real race is on! Only 6.2 miles to go!
