Bob Hillgrove runs Boston Marathon warm-up!

Bob has run one career marathon : at Tucson AZ when he was 45 years old : finishing 11th overall in 2:27. He has never : run the Boston Marathon as he usually was : found running and winning the Portland Boys : Club 5 Miler in Portland which is : traditionally held on the same Patriots Day : holiday, where he incidentally won eight : times and was the course record holder for : many years. One of the reasons he never ran : in the Boston Marathon is the fact that the : Portland race was such a major event in : Maine and he was either the defending champ : or the defending course record holder. He : reports that he wishes he'd have run Boston : and in the 1964 Olympic trials held in : Culver City CA and in his words, : "regrets I didn't do it" . Bob is : a member of the Maine Running Hall of Fame : and has also won seven Bangor Labor Day : races where the winners trophy still bears : his name. He is excited to finally get a : chance to run in the Boston Marathon where : he will be honored to run as an invited : participant and therefore does not need to : qualify to participate as the majority of : the starting field must do each year. : : Bob Hillgrove earned the title, : "The King of the Roads" in the : 1960s : : : More recently Bob ran a 12k on Oct 15, 06 at : high altitude in Boulder CO finishing in : 45:26 or 6:05 pace at age 61.
