And those special cases ("my friend works the midnight shift and is driving directly from Mars Hill to the starting line") are monitored even more closely. If exchanging numbers is discovered, both the original qualifier and the receiver go on the 'do not accept' list for future Bostons. So go the charity route if you're intent on running without a qualifier. Steve Vaitones

: Hi, anyone have a number they cant use or know
: someone who has one they would like to
: unload? I figure it wont hurt to ask...
: Thanks, Jane Lucas
First, Gary is right - the BAA not only frowns upon it, every effort is made to prevent changing numbers. The reasons include safety - if there's any medical issues during the race, all the med staff has to go on is the name that goes along with the bib number - and results integrity. It might not "matter" if a female takes a 2:40 male number and finishes further back, but the reverse can cause a lot of issues.
And does anyone find it amusing that these charities set high minimums and then require the runner to pony up the entry fee as well?
(Note on the link that Gary posted: The entry fee for all non-time-qualifiers is $200, not $125 as listed in the info on the Maine TC site)
