Posted by gary on February 11, 2007, 2:20 pm The list of the marathons held worldwide in 2006 has been posted on the ARRS website- http://www.arrs.net There are 1691 marathons that were held with another 197 marathons scheduled but not documented as yet. Another 31 marathons were scheduled but cancelled and ten marathons were non-competitive events with no winner declared. Finisher data was available for 1269 marathons, with a total of 964,329 finishers. The remaining 422 marathons were mostly small marathons although finisher data was not available for several major Chinese and Korean Marathons. It is likely that these would have brought the total marathon finishers world-wide close to the one million mark. The marathon lists for 2004 and 2005 are already the most popular pages on the ARRS website, Runners with the most marathon wins in 2006: 35 Rosemary vonKocemba (GER) 25 Chuck Engle (USA) 23 Carsten Alfred Mattejiet (GER) 15 Helge Hafsås (NOR) 14 Ole Sporleder (GER) 13 Sigrid Eichner (GER) 11 Hanna Vauhkonen (FIN) 11 Igor Heles (HUN) Of the better known runners, Joshua Rop (KEN) had the most wins with six. The bulk of the work on this huge project was undertaken by ARRS members Ken Young, Klaas Loonstra and Franco Anichini
