I remember the UMO gang of teammates that showed up to see just what it was that their teammate was doing with his waddling around campus during the school year. Lewiston was a hotbed of walking in the northeast at the time (well, maybe more of a bed with a heating pad relative to running, given the far smaller numbers of walkers) and promoted by a guy named John Lafreniere. He was involved with the very active Lewiston Recreation Athletic Club (LRAC) and that club designation can be found in a number of the MRH results of the late 60's early 70's. Still on the walking topic, if you hadn't seen some summer results, UMO frosh out of Boothbay Lauren Forgues was US Junior champ and silver medalist at the Pan American Games in the 10,000 meter walk. Her brother Matt was 3rd in the USA junior men's 10k (51:00.) and will be representing the US at the annual USA vs CAN dual meet on Long Island on August 12. Both were among the campers at College of the Atlantic 2 summers ago when the Crows hosted a trip to Cranberry for the young racewalkers. SV --Previous Message--
Top 10 in 3 years. That was when both the flesh and spirit were willing. Now the flesh has all it can handle just getting out the door every day.
