On the other hand I know you noticed the first woman as she blazed past our murder. Historically woman run very smart and pace even or run negative splits. Its interesting to me that she's the only one who ran negative splits out of of anyone in the top 20. Besides training the single best bit of advice all runners should practice is patience. cheers g Here's a quote from our QUOTE page, we should all live by this, because we certainly die when we don't "Most mistakes in a race are made in the first two minutes, perhaps in the very first minute." -Jack Daniels

: I had a great time at the 5-miler, despite
: going out too fast, as usual. Running in on
: Sargeant drive was beautiful and I really
: thought the weather pretty good for running.
: The humidity was broken by cooler sea
: breezes and some shade here and there. That
: said I'm sure that if Patrick and I had
: paced our selves better we could have run a
: better race. Going out too fast seems to me
: like swinging to early at a pitch or taking
: the wrong line through corner in a race car;
: having a smart strategy and sticking with it
: is just as important as being physically
: fit. So I'm resolving to really focus on
: pacing. I haven't really been running
: competitively for more than about eight
: months but I ought to be better at this. I
: have started to do track workouts every
: Monday (mostly 3 min. 800s to burn what 6
: min. pace feels like into my head. Does
: anyone have any ideas about what else I
: should do or ideas about running at the
: track? no advice is too basic because I'm
: really new to this.
: My brother Bob, Mary Ropp, and my
: friend Philippe all ran great races right
: out of the box with almost zero training or
: prep. Bob is moving in with me here in
: Portland and I'll see if I can get him to
: cut about 10 min. off his time by next year.
: I also want to congratulate everyone
: who ran the race with me, but I didn't
: really know so well as I live in Portland.
: Seeing so many people of differing
: situations and abilities all come out
: together and push their individual limits is
: a very humbling and moving experience for
: me. I look forward to expanding my own
: limits.
: And holy crap David Wilson is FAST! I
: want to take some road trips to his high
: school track meets andsupport him this year!
