the young lady pictured approached me just before this shot was taken and said, "this looks fun maybe I should have run it". For those of you who don't know, JBS has never run a marathon in her home state. When I introduced her at the excellent talk she did at MDIHS I pointed this little known fact out. She said maybe she'd have to run all 3 Me Marathons and have me auction off her appearances at each for charity. (We did a JBS vintage memorabilia auction for charity prior to her talk) Whatever happens it will be good when Maine's best can run her long overdue victory lap in front of her home state fans. As for the other guy in the pic, he will run MDI someday but not in the foreseeable future.

Interesting "little known fact". I'd love to see her take on any or all of the 3 Maine Marathons. She "blew by me" in during MY marathon debut running in the Maine Marathon several years ago but she was just running the half-marathon ... either way I would think she still "blow by me", be it in the 1/2 -or- the full on ANY course. G, Actually I've begun taking a few weeks off to "rest" the body/mind/soul, while taking stock of where to go for NEXT year. Then into the gym for some cross-training and low-impact cardio. Looking at doing all the Maine marathons again next year,(CGI Ultra gonna happen again?); but, then as a "new" 50 Stater figuring out other states to branch out to do without breaking the budget. Also planning to do all of the Aroostook Musterd series for "speed work", maybe the "Mud Mile" if it isn't scheduled for the same day as our 1/2 Marathon here in "the County". Besides your New Year's Boston, what's up your sleeve?? David G. Hey, gotta tell you a quick funny story. Waiting at the entrance of Central Park for the Olympic Trial runners to come through on NYCM w/e...out of the corner of my eye I noticed a couple that looked wicked familiar. We struck up a coversation to figure out which marathon/when and where we'd run together.... you guessed it! CGI Ultra, Chris Ertola from Long Island. Later in the day at the pasta feed in Cental Park bumped into several folks from Portland area who'd we'd met doing the Reach the Beach in NH this fall. I guess I should have bought a lottery ticket for PowerBall. Dave, I am interested in running multiple marathons in 2008. I especially like Saturday/Sunday doubles to minimize expenses of 2 separate trips. Examples for me would be Wirefly National Marathon DC Saturday followed up by the Ocean Drive New Jersey on Sunday sometime in March. Kill 2 states in one weekend. I have not joined the 50 state club but have run marathons in 12 states as of today. Still have not signed up for the Marathon Maniacs yet as well. I'll will sign up for both sometime this winter. A race that sounds pretty good to me right now is Death Valley on Saturday Dec 1 and New Las Vegas on Sunday Dec 2. I also have been told that I can pace a 3:30 group for a North Carolina Thunder Road December 8th. Probably won't do any of them but as a marathon junkie would like to run them. Philly is full and I should have signed up for it but was not sure how I would make out after running 9 marathons in 36 days this fall. Roger, You are HOOKED, I think that you have the "bug" BIG TIME,( and it takes one to know one). From all the other 50 Staters that I've run with doing doubles are the way to go, especially to minimize expenses with traveling. On the Marathon Maniacs or the 50 State web-sites there are calendars that can help with this, especially with the 50 Staters site with the common doubles spelled out. National and NJ are a common one, NH/Maine is another one. I even thought of doing Ridge to Bridge (NC)on Sat. and then MCM on Sun. this past fall but the travel logistics didn't work out for me. Anyhow, one goal that I'll be looking at will be to try to crank out 3 states in 8 days to pick up another Maniac "spinny star" and be half-way to the top level. nice...I haven't run a step for a few days and it feels good. Not to worry. I'm tossing around a few ideas. As we all know a man without goals is just another empty container. 1. Would like to run my 20th sub 2:50 while in my 50s 2. Probably will stress quality over quantity for marathons in 08. 3. Would like to make the offical awards ceremony at Boston (top 5) need to move up from my 9th last year. 4. keep having fun! The trials were fun! Can't believe you bumped into all those people! As for Ryan Hall he is the real thing, 1:07 /1:02 splits!
