Gary, You are a machine. Your longevity for running competitive marathons is amazing. How do you put up such great numbers time and time again on the old bones of yours. Congratulations. I hope your running Sugarloaf. I've got a couple of other marathons prior to Sugarloaf but I am hoping to hook a tow rope to you so that I can run my first sub 3 on May 18th. It has been my plan for awhile to kick your butt. Seriously though, very nice run at Boston. There are so many things that could go wrong and you chalked up another great effort. For the record my GPS watch had me at 26.77 miles from the starting mat to the finish mat with a pace of 6:58. My actual pace per the Boston results was 7:07. Your an expert at the tangents so I am going to follow you stride for stride. Unless you have to hit the woods. Nice Job! Roger

Gary, Nice run! Congrats on yet another Sub 3! I tried to find you before the start to say howdy and wish you luck. I ran hard to catch you so we could run together but overextended myself early-the wheels started to come off about mile 10 and by the half I was just fighting with all I had to hang on and finish. I was truly awed by the entire Boston experience. What an event! The support of the crowds along the course, the number of runners, the sheer size of the event-it was all amazing to me. Congrats also to all the other Crows! I bumped into Jim Newett post race at a local restaurant-it was nice to finally meet him, as I've not yet had the opportunity. I kept my eye out for other Crows but didn't get to talk with anyone. I was walking with my wife when someone behind me commented on my Crow jacket. I turned around and was amazed to see Mr Amby Burfoot! He had a lot of nice things to say about you and Crow Athletics. I was thrilled to have met him. Congrats to all the other Crows on some fantastic racing in Boston and thanks to Mary for including me in the updates during the race. I've never had live press coverage before. Running as a Crow certainly brought me good fotune this year. Although it wasn't my fastest Boston ever it was my best time since 2002 and it was the only one of 11 where I ran close to even splits and felt great right through the finish line. It was one of those days when nothing could go wrong. I was hoping to bump into some of you but it's hard to find people in the crowds of Boston. Perhaps I'll make it down to the July 4th Relay or the Cranberry Island Ultra where the crowds aren't quite as thick, but the rinning is just as good. --Previous Message-- : G....The sub 3 is on-going!!!! In the recent issue of Runners World, Amby tells of his "slow" side---in addition to his 8:45 2-mile (actually 8:44.+) he ran 8:51 against Sebsibe Mamo @Colby College (indoors)---I somehow got in the elite field w/them; big mistake (9:19)Seb won in 8:48--that was a couple of months before Boston----Amby seemed to have a knack @ winning Manchester (4.795523 Miles !!!)a 100 times...not bad for a slow kicker...I'm glad to have been in the same field w/ him in our primes.....B --Previous Message-- : Congrats to all the other Crows on some : fantastic racing in Boston and thanks to : Mary for including me in the updates during : the race. thanks all, I was happy enough with my run...but truth be told there is still another few minutes hiding in there...sorry to have been away from the PC for a week but I got a lot of other work/play done. I stayed in Boston for a few days after and ran an easy hour and a half on Tues AM and another hour + on Wed (in 80 degree heat- which would have made for an interesting Patriots day?) I'm sorry I missed you Joe and hope to see you at the marathon wars again real soon, as for Roger, Dave and others terrific job! I know you guys are going to catch me (not if but when) and I'll be your biggest damn cheerleader when you go past me.....cheers to everyone who ran in the 112th Boston Marathon. PS Bob H. PSS Short story dept: As Mary and I where sitting in the VIP finish line tent in Copley Sq a nice fellow approached and asked to check his time on Mary's Computer. He said he ran 2:39. We checked his results and sure enough it was Norm Larson from VT who won the vets div (50-59).
