Gary, I see a post by you regarding the Pineland Farms Ultra. I should have listened. This was a tough race. I was spent by mile 30 and thought this might be a DNF. The organizations was great, the trails were good, the weather was great, and I ran well for quite awhile. Is was a good learning experience that I will probably sit out in future years. I was more spent form this race than any other I have completed. Luckily my brother Steve helped me through the last 11 miles as a pacer. 8:09+ for 50 miles 11th place overall. I'll stick to road marathons and leave the trails for someone else. I also see Nedicus at the completion of the race. He ran 50k and I never see him on the trails. Not much chance we did anything in the team awards as I think we may have been a team of 2. Nedicus was bummed that the keg ran dry and shortly after he left a couple others went on tap. Nedicus was longing for the post race party at the CGI. Sorry Nedicus. You had it right about the Cranberry Ultra. It is the only one I am interested in this summer. Roger

yeah, what he said. I figured I should be able to cut about 20min off my GCI ultra time from last year and run about a 4:20. Wrong. I ran well for about 20 miles. felt ok, not great but good. I did the first 15.5 in 2:07. Then on the second lap got to a lot of off kilter trails at the edges of fields and steep rises and drop offs. Suddenly my muscles started twitching and then knotted up so I couldn't even walk. I kept moving, slowly and eventually ate some banana which reduced the cramping and I ran in the last few miles. 5:30 was my finishing time. So painful, but I'm glad I finished. And then I get to the end, 1.5 hours after the barbeque is supposed to start and the kegs are already tapped. Plus they had the worst super thin frozen hamburger patties I'd ever seen. Gary and the GCI Ultra have spoiled me.

you both have my upmost respect...this race is a monster. I can't image ever doing it again but then again I never planned on grabbing the spark plug wire of a runing lawn mover either.....cheers to throwing down the best races and post race celebrations..... Roger and Ned, Way to hang tough-good job, both of you! The Pineland course is extremely tough-I ran the 50k last year and my quads were knotted up by the 17 mile mark. The downhills were brutal. Look forward to seeing you guys at the GCI ultras this summer. When it comes to post race activities/festivities the GCI ultras can't be beat. The best part is getting to hang out with all the other runners post race. Most other events everybody just clears out and goes home-at the GCI's you finish running an ultra then put on a party hat. Pineland Farms WAS a challenge, but the Par-taaah was NOT. At Cranberry Island Ultra I believe it is the other way around!!! Surviving the party/celebration is the challenge, getting through the run is just a journey to GET to PARTY!!
