SHARPHAM

I've been able to trace my family history back to Peter SHARPHAM born in Haberton in 1655. According to the website for SHARPHAM HOUSE near Ashprington, The name was taken from the history of the property it sits on. Apparently the land was originally owned by Thomas de Schearpham (his name taken from "Schearp" meaning "Sharp" and "ham" meaning "bend in the river". The Devon FHS seems to have nothing much on the name SHARPHAM but I wouldn't investigating further as I don't have anything linking my ancestor Peter SHARPHAM to Thomas de SCHEARPHAM. Please let me know if the Society is able to help in some way.
