I am currently researching the Boney family of Brentor/Mary Tavy. In 1939 Wilfrid is recorded as living at Wortha Engineering Works, Brentor, Tinhay. His brother, Leonard, at Blacknor Park, Tinhay. Tavistock R D. (I have not had the advantage of examining the original record). Having lived for part of my youth at Wortha Cottage, I am familiar with both locations which I know to be situated between Wortha Farm and Wortha Mill, off the Brentor to Mary Tavy road. I have never heard of this area being referred to as Tinhay, and the only place of that name I can find is in Lifton. Can anyone provide me with an explanation, please?
I am not familiar with the area but have had a look at the original entry on FMP.
Tinhay is not on the original, but FMP have used it in their 'version' of the address.
FMP also include a map of the location for 1939 addresses. In this case, the 'pointer' is very close to Lifton Railway Station, which is to the east of the Town, and some distance from Brentor. Above the station and to the NW is an area marked 'Tinhay' on the map.
I think FMP's idea of the 'local area' is inaccurate, and Tinhay is a red herring.
