And I agree with you completely, Judy, about comedy being just as much of an art form as drama. My "issue" with Hugh Grant is that he seems to play the same role in the same kind of comedy all the time. And he's rewarded for it, with big roles in "big" movies. Whereas relatively few actors (Colin Firth being a prime example) can get different kinds of lead roles in a variety of types of films. My frustration is with the Hollywood "system" that wants to put actors in pigeonholes and with audiences who seem to want to see actors do the same thing over and over again. Actors like Jeremy, who want to try new things--to do a horror movie after having played the romantic lead in a period film and the villain in a thriller--struggle mightily against that.
I'd love to see JN in lead roles in film. He's got as much talent as any actor out there--of any age. I'm not sure being over 50 is the reason he's in small, supporting roles, however. I think there are a lot of factors involved, including the fact that he's worked so little in the last six or so years. I'm just delighted that he seems to be taking on new projects more frequently now. I'm hoping that continues! (Please, Jeremy? )
It could be worse: Jeremy could be a woman over 50 trying to get good roles in films.
