CA Notary law states that you CAN notarize for family. As long as the notary does not have a DIRECT beneficial or financial interest in the document being notarized.
If it were my parents/in-laws, I would do it.

: I see your point, Craig. There is no
: family to speak of - my husband is the
: sole heir, and they will be using this
: money to bank for their retirement. I
: don't see that I'm in danger of
: violating the laws in CA.
:
: Thank you everyone!

: Sounds to me like the deed is already
: done - Claire said they've already
: sold the plots - they just want to get
: their money from the cemetery
: association...Like I said - it's not
: necessarily a good idea to notarize
: for family HOWEVER from a notary-law
: standpoint, Kelly is confirming that
: she's fine...

: I would recommend against it.
: Families
: do funny things down the road when it
: comes to divvying up inheritances, and
: perceived "benifit's"
: received earlier in life (real or
: not).
:
: My personal rule for family is if it
: involves money (no matter how trivial
: the amount) I decline. Its probably
: won't be sibling or anyone you know,
: it's going to be ex-aunt Jenny's,
: son's, cousin showing up causing
: trouble.
