OK, here's the real story. Yes, they did get the names of 400 new and renewing notaries in one day but it was for the entire state - not just one county. So my goof, because I was thinking why would the SOS sand a little ole insurance company the names of every notary in the state?
So, when I went back to pick up my new seal, they told me the SOS sends them the names and addresses of every notary, and then they mail out all their stuff.
They said they get orders from all over. I can't imagine why a notary 400 miles away would use them. I got inundated with mail from NorCal suppliers after my new commission started. It was enough to wade through all that without considering companies in counties I've only been in on vacation... but then I never got mail from suppliers outside my county, anyway.
Still, 400 in one day, no matter the area, isn't all that comforting, either.
