I've always found this whole topic a bit of a joke, with unfortunately serious consequence.
How?
Lets see: today I choose not to speed, stab/hang/shoot someone, walk across the street on a red light, and any number of other things laws exist about.
Doing these things was I:
1.) Abiding by the law?
2.) Using common sense?
3.) Practicing Law without a need for a license?
4.) Practicing Law without a license?
I guarantee you I could find a legal opinion to back all four of those answers, a judge who would agree with them, and a talk show host who would argue either side of each of them.
What I can guarantee you is the NNA (which I'm a member) hot line, would recommend against following any of those things I listed, for fear of practicing the law without a license.
