    first half Saturday

I appreciate obviously it has been overshadowed but in the football context I think important to stress that for 45 mins on Saturday we actually played like a "normal" PL team - pressing high and committing men forward in possession, lots of nice touches in the middle of the field etc. The Brentford performance was certainly the worst we have played this season all things considered and I think RE learnt from that in these 'winnable' away games. Obviously no one knows the mindset going forward given the circumstances but keeping it strictly to football I thought that 45 mins was our best of the season overall

Agree 100%, we looked so comfortable and probably best we’ve played

Although 2nd half, their goal was coming and they were definitely on top when it was stopped!

They had won 5 out of 6 so definitely reason to be optimistic

I didn’t think the goal ‘was coming’ early in the second half I just thought we gave the ball away a bit cheaply. What chances they did have - up until the goal - were going either high or wide, or both.

Nobody has answered a question I posed on here after the match btw - had we used all our subs when Tom went off?

We had made 3, if that helps.

I know and it’s why I asked. I still haven’t got my head around this subs law - you know, at half time, keepers, extra time etc. It seems to change from one week to the next.

Not really changed for a while.

League games - five subs from nine available but can only be made on three separate occasions although half time doesn't count as an occasion - the idea is to stop five separate substitutions to wind down the clock. Not aware of any rule for keepers that is different to outfield players.

Cup games - extra sub allowed if a game goes to extra time.

So Tom Lockyer could have been subbed then?

                We had 2 subs left.

Yes, it doesn't seem as straightforward as before.

It was. We genuinely looked like we belonged.

Do some more of that shit, I don't see us dropping points until the end of Jan.

            Cheers, Jim

Last time we were in the top flight we won 3 out of 3 christmas fixtures. The third was against chelsea. I tend to think there will be an overwhelming urge to do it for Tommy on saturday. Whoever comes in for Tommy (it will be osho i think) maybe just as good defensively (tommys big miss will be his leadership and warrior spirit and for that reason he would still have been the first name on the teamsheet).

I don`t think this will be a sold davis stroke situation. It will somehow galvanise the squad (and lead to a boking the second a scorer whips off his shirt to reveal a message of support for tom)
