    Captain for Saturday ?

Posted by Former Potters Bar Hatter on 20/12/2023, 22:35:18

It seems to be that Morris is the obvious choice but he is not likely to be in the starting eleven. This leaves Ross Barkley who has bags of experience and appears to have the leadership quality that the younger players can look up to, and the drive from the middle of the park. Let's hope he can stay injury-free and in the next three vital games lead us to the victories our recent form deserves.

A case of who can be a captain, who will play and whose game it will enhance. Doughty and osho the first ones that spring to mind as starters. Then you have the current non starters - morris, clark, pelly. for some reason osho stands out. and my mind told me his was liability pre scum. he just seems to get better. and a big game player. all big games now. big game captain?

I reckon it will be Bell on Saturday, and probably Nakamba after that but can also see it just being decided on a game-by-game basis.

I would personally like to see Ross Barkley as captain.
I see him as a leader on the pitch!

Is a captain really needed? The natural leaders will do what they do and the introverts, (are there any) or less experienced, will follow.

So who's going to lift the Europa League trophy next season then? You haven't thought this through.

The captain is the only team member who is “officially” allowed to talk to the referee, I think we undervalue this interaction at our peril, Tom is always in the refs ear

Fair comment. If abided by, that pretty much rules out a keeper as captain, due to the lack of chances to approach the ref, unless the other team is attacking ALL the time.

so then t has to be someone who is persuasive

Back to Barkley ? He can talk to the ref
