I take it the cinema is no longer there then? Did it get converted into flats?
Am I right in thinking there was a similar cinema (lounge seats, licensed drinks etc), that opened in St Albans, also by the same people / company?

Cinema is one of the best in England. Some of it became the Gatsby but as a single screen cinema it is absolutely thriving and has been for years.

Used to be the foyer of the still legendary Rex cinema.

Us Hatters are still in the minority here, but (as others have posted
today) I spent a happy few minutes today
hiding copies of that new Scummer book
          in the local Waterstones.

Plenty of Luton on the platform on the glorious 27th (May).

Another Berko connection for you - Nick Owen’s Dad Bertie was a
school-teacher here, and Nick was born here. Bless him.

We’re not all bad in Hertfordshire (accepting that Bedfordshire - oh Bedfordshire! - is wonderful!!)

I have an apartment in The Rex and my son lives a few doors down. Should arrange a Hatters evening. I know someone who can arrange speakers there - maybe a talk by Mick ? that will upset the local WFC types. A few Hatters in Aldbury too.

Great idea Cybermat - I’m in! If it was well-enough
publicised there’d definitely be plenty of people
              wanting to come.

              Certainly know an Aldbury Hatter..

I used to see a girl in Berko, I always thought it was quite a nice place excepting its proximity to scumford.

                Cheers, Jim

Funny enough Berko is 10 miles from both Luton and Scumford

Very true HHH, the difference being
that the Scummers could get a 12 mins
train to Scum central whereas we had to get a
bus to Hemel then another one to Luton!
