Official Luton tweet ready to go when the inevitable happens later today

Posted by Sandgrounder on 1/5/2024, 9:52:05

One extremely poor decision - two points given back to Nottingham Forest - which we simply cannot accept.

We warned the Premier League that one of the appeal panel members lightly brushed against a Nottingham Forrest supporter on a crowded train in 2003 before the hearing but they didn’t change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times [by the weak as piss points penalties handed out].

LTFC will now consider its options.

Thankfully I’m past the point of caring.

I hated the PL as we came up the league, and I still hate it.

      It’s just shit.

I have some sympathy with the sentiment but, if we take that attitude, what's the future for us? Knocking around the C'ship forever? Like Preston Bristol City, QPR, Brum (although they might exit the wrong way)

Sounds a pretty boring existence to me

Plus being in the top flight, and possibly establishing, gives us a far better chance* of winning another major trophy

There's a lot wrong with the Prem but it's not all bad

*still small, obviously, but still far greater than not being in it

This really!! I don’t want to be seen to put a downer on the club. But it’s no place for us really.
We stay up. What will next year be like ? Novelty will have worn off. Be no surprise element to us. We can’t compete and will probably be next seasons Sheff Utd and get laughed at.
We’ve had a good go. Won a lot of admirers and for the faithful who go each week have had some great memories , nothing will touch Wembley last May either.

We are definitely in a very strange place in English football.

90% of teams coming up to the Premier League say the journey is more fun than the destination. We've had some great moments this season, but the balance of enjoyment tips into the negative when you have VAR, refs who give free kicks against you for breathing on the opposition, utterly shit away days (if you can even get a ticket), and generally just not being able to compete over 90 mins.

It's an existential debate, really. What can a club like ours hope to achieve? A push for Europa Conference? Like Brighton, and potentially Bournemouth? Fans soon become entitled and restless, and it's all a bit boring.

Anything above the top 6 is a closed shop. And unless they do break away, I can't see that ever changing. Obviously I want us to stay up, because no one actually wants to get relegated (plus it would boil Forest fans piss no end) but I find myself quite excited about the prospect of seeing how these players do in the Championship. As much as I've absolutely loved seeing Barkley boss some of the best midfielders in the world, it's going to be just as enjoyable seeing young, hungry players like Chong, Holmes and Taylor take on the Championship next season (and hopefully actually win some games!)

This is, basically, where I'm at especially your Forest point. If/when we succumb there'll be some convincing themselves that relegation "might be a good thing". Relegation is never a good thing and it'll be a long summer but, fortunately, with us it will just be a setback. For Forest it could be much, MUCH more serious than that

I also think that surviving this season might lead to better things. Not sure why some seem to think that a horrible season is nailed on for us next season if we do stay up. Next season we'll probably see Everton in admin, Leicester with points deducted, Ipswich struggling and one or more of Brighton, Brentford, Palace, B'mouth, etc being one bad transfer window away from having a real struggle too. We might also see one of Norwich, WBA or Hull promoted through the play-offs and I can't see any of those pulling up many trees in their 1st year

I'd rather stay up and find out how we'd cope, anyway

Agreed. I think a second season in the prem would see us kick on a bit. Maybe we could sign Sambi permanently, and we'd be in a position to attract some very decent players. Plus, as you say some of the teams coming up could struggle as we have.

It's good either way, really. Relegation is never fun, but it will be the most painless relegation in our history, and I'm sure we'll be over it very quickly!

We have pretty much improved every season for about the last 8..even if we go down we will still have finished higher than last season.
Consequently if by some miracle we do stay up why can’t we improve by say 5% again. We would have more money to spend and could strengthen in the summer without any change to PC.
Personally would like us to stay up and see if we can move forward again..

Sadly, Samba’s injury record means I wouldn’t be in favour of signing him even if we stayed up. Ideally you want your premier league loans to be difference makers and play the majority of games, and unfortunately Kabore and Sambi just haven’t been either available enough or quite good enough (in Kabore’s case). Obviously it’s not easy to sign players and the ones we got probably came to us because they were young and had suspect injury records. We also targeted the right positions in my view. It’s just not quite worked out.

Yep, no single game this season matches the euphoria of May and realistically it never could (Everton away in the league probably the closest). And it will be very hard for anything to match May unless we win another major trophy. The chances of that are higher in the premier league which is why I’d like us to stay in it and hopefully get incrementally better year on year. But I’m not going to be devastated if we get relegated.

I confess I'd far rather we went down this year with 28/29 points, having won admirers, than stay up and then have a horrendous time next year, as I think Huddersfield did a few years back.

It's not inevitable we'd have a bad time next year plus we'd have another £100million as consolation if we do. Which, if nothing else, will help with PC and continue to grow the fanbase, especially youngsters

I've enjoyed most of this season but, while down about it, I won't be crushed if we get relegated. Not least cos it's looked on the cards ever since we lost to a terrible Sheff Utd side and the injuries then kicked in. So, it won't exactly be a shock

This last month has become a little tedious cos we've lost every week bar one but it's been good and I want us to stay up. Unfortunately, we're just going to fall short

I actually hope we're pretty silent on it.

The stuff I'm still seeing from Forest fans on Twitter, TEN DAYS after a couple of 50/50 penalties weren't given, is beyond comprehension.

I don't really want us to react, as it won't do any good and will just bring us down to their pathetic level.

They still think there's a conspiracy. And they'll still be complaining even if they stay up, and likely into next season, too.

Always used to have a soft spot for them, but the last few years have made me realise what a bunch of deluded, entitled clowns they are.

If we are to go down, all of my energy is going into hoping Burnley stay up at their expense.
